Some Armor Basics

Hello everyone,

doing the Bookfair Leipzig you may have seen many many costumes and some of them with a full body armor or at least some armor parts, weapons or something like this.

You may ask for the materials, these ones were made of. There are several materials like paper mache and so on, but the best to create an armor or armor parts is with thermoplastics like Wonderflex, Worbla's Finest Art and KOBra Cast. These materials are the best for huge or normal sized armor plates and parts, for smaller parts like some accesoires you can use Worbla's Finest Art, friendly plastic and Worbla's Deco Art.

All these materials have one thing in common, you need heat to work with them.

KOBraCast is a kinda plastic gypsum, it's normally used for medical things, but can also be used for art crafting - the same as gypsum, too.
You can use it to make a negative of body parts, these ones can be coated with leather, Worbla or other fabrics. If you coat it with Worbla or Wonderflex it will become very solid and can also look like real metal if you do the right coloring.
To heat it up you can either use boiled water, which method I prefer, but also a hot air gun.
For using it to cover body parts you should use a tube gauze or plastic foil between the heated KOBra and your skin, else it might hurt.

By Covering this with Worbla's Finest Art or Wonderflex, adding horns made of friendly plastic, giving it some structure with structure paste (I prefer Reeves and Rico Design) the head / "helmet" will end up like this (not yet finished, just a progress picture to show the direction in which this may go):

All these materials, except for the structure paste, can be found on the following pages:

If you have any further questions about this, just ask, maybe I can help you with tips or some kinda instructions.
