A new take on Zelda - no Damsel in distress and a Reminder to the past

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

A Fresh Nod to Retro Gaming with a Wall of Inaccessibility

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom offers a delightful and modern twist on the Zelda franchise, capturing the charm and fun of earlier Zelda titles while incorporating a fresh new style. The game brings to mind the golden age of gaming in the '90s, recalling the beloved experiences of playing on the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, SNES, and N64. The top-down perspective and engine used in Echoes of Wisdom hark back to the pixelated nostalgia of those classic games, blending modern visuals with retro charm.

There’s no doubt that Echoes of Wisdom benefits from its unique blend of old-school mechanics and fresh design. It’s an experience that evokes a warm sense of nostalgia, transporting players back to the simpler days of handheld gaming, where titles like A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, and Ocarina of Time held a special place in our hearts. The fresh art direction and modern mechanics offer a perfect balance between nostalgia and innovation, making it a joy to play.

However, while the game successfully taps into this rich history, it simultaneously draws attention to a pressing issue in the world of retro gaming: the growing wall of inaccessibility. Despite the positive homage to earlier Zelda titles, the ability to access these retro games remains frustratingly difficult. Many of the classic Zelda games that shaped the series—such as Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, or even the earlier Game Boy and SNES titles—are either unavailable or overpriced on the second-hand market, preventing many players from experiencing these masterpieces.

This contrast is impossible to ignore as you play Echoes of Wisdom. The game is a vivid reminder of how much joy these classic titles continue to bring, yet it also underscores how difficult it is for new players to experience the roots of the series. Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom embodies the nostalgia of the '90s, but at the same time, highlights how those classic games remain locked away in physical cartridges, scarce and increasingly costly, or buried behind complicated emulation options.

As retro games continue to rise in price and scarcity, it is clear that the gaming industry must do more to make these classics accessible to all players. A more robust and accessible digital library for retro titles could solve this issue and allow players to enjoy the history and evolution of the Zelda series without the financial or logistical barriers that currently exist.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is a great game that celebrates the past while offering something new. Yet, it’s also a reminder that while modern technology allows us to revisit the glory days of the '90s, the means to actually do so remain limited, preventing a full celebration of gaming's rich history.

Book Fair 2019 is coming soon

Be prepared and pack your camera gear for the hundrets of Cosplayer on those 4 days in March from 21st until 24th.

Of course a Book fair is also about the latest books that you definitely should not miss, especially when you are planning on writing and publishng your own material just look for a matching publisher and get in contact with editors, otherwise the section for self-publishing might fit you, because it has never been easier to cast your own work into the world of readers.

If you are just into reading, can just explore all the halls and maybe you can get an autograph of a famous or your most beloved author him-/herself.

I will check the picturebook section like every year hoping to find the right motivation for my own work being able to choose from 40.000 pics about Japan, increasing my portfolio every year ;)

The Cosplayers that you are unable to miss not just in their "own area" Manga-Comic-Con will get most of my attention.

There are a few interesting booths (not the shops, it's way too expensive, import your stuff) for example NINTENDO presenting their latest Games as well as GamesRoom SVVAMP offering tournaments and a nice place to relax and experience some great multiplayer games.

Be prepared for some awesome work next week.

Just compare the amazing Cosplay work from DREAMHACK 2019

Just to tease you with some Cosplayers from 2018

Leipziger Buchmesse 2017 is near

It's Book Fair again, tomorrow the doors of the "Leipziger Buchmesse" will open as well as the Manga-Comic-Con.

So many things to see, new book releases, readings with authors, autograph sessions, Cosplayers, video games and so much more.

You can instantly feel the enormous atmosphere of everything that awaits you, it might start with someone dressed up as a disney character, going over to the volume of your favorite fantasy novel, followed by a beautiful picture about a place you ever dreamed of visiting or by trying out the new Nintendo Switch and ends with a Sheldon Cosplayer right after attending a reading of a new famous author.

There are so many reasons to come to Leipzig and vist the Book Fair Leipzig / Manga-Comic-Con.

I guess most of my attention will be caught by the numerous cosplayers just like any other year before.

See you tomorow

Book Fair Leipzig is coming soon, again

Only one week is left until the "halls of the books" will open again at Leipziger Buchmesse (Book Fair Leipzig) and MCC - Manga-Comic-Con.

Publishers and authors will use their chances to introduce their latest books to the audience. The booths always invite to read the new stuff they offer and very ofetn more than that - many publishers, especially the big ones have events like meet and greets, autograph sessions or a reading with their authors.

There's always something to find for everyone and not just the "traditional" books, because there's also the Manga-Comic-Con... where you can find Cars and Flowers - just joking - as you can imagine you can find many manga and comic related booths and many other that share the same topic, e.g. Cosplay. Cosplayers belong to that scene like BBQ sauce belongs to beef. Back in the days when manga where not as famous as they are now, you only had a few cosplayers in the halls and the acceptance by the other visiters was quite small. But now it's accepted (as long the cosplayers behave and don't creep around like weirdos - you always have some black sheep) and some people who never read a manga, comic or saw an anime ever before also come to see the colorful costumes, take pictures and value the effort of creating those armors and dresses.

Beside books, Manga and so you will also find a few video game publisher like Nintendo where you can try their latest games, especially their new console Nintendo Switch - I highly recommend trying it out - The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is one of the best games of the last decade.

The Book Fair opens from March 23 - March 26 10:00-18:00 - only one week is left, I hope you will enjoy it.

Retro-Saturday - Tetris and Dragon Quest

Everybody, who owned a Game Boy played this Game, the classic Russian puzzle game where you have to finish lines with 8 different stones/bricks. The stones are the 8 possibilities to group 4 blocks.

I didn't play for 10 years, so please show mercy, that I didn't make 100.000 points to achieve a rocket launch, there will be two more videos, the B-TYPE-MODE and a second A-TYPE-MODE try with more than 100.000 points.

And for those of you who like Dragon Quest and especially the Monsters (which are cooler than Pokémon) should have a look at the picture below the video, further pictures will be featured within the next weeks, now ENJOY:

Monster-Monday - Figures and the first Quest of MHGen

Today is Monster-Moday, so I have a new Monster Hunter Video and a few Comic-Look pictures of some of my Monster Hunter and God Eater figures.

I chose some of my favorite wyvern / dragons, the Akantor and the Lao-Shan Lung.
I used the LINE Camera App to edit the pictures, because I love the Comic Tool, some pictures look a little bit manga pictures.

Now enjoy the pictures and the first Monster Hunter Generations Quest - more quests and entries about monster related things will follow, e.g. Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 and stuff like that, because I hereby announce a Monster-Week

Create Yourself - Monster Hunter Generatons #1 Character Creation on Monster-Monday

It's Monster-Monday and finally I present my first Monster Hunter Generations Videos.
Especially because I am currently unable to play myself because of a broken wrist.

To give you a small overview about the Monster Hunter Series, this article might help you:
What is Monster Hunter?

Monster Hunter Generations is the latest installent of the famous Monster Hunter series. In Japan this was released as Monster Hunter X (cross). It's a perfect fan service for everyone, who played the Monster Hunter Freedom (portable) Games on PSP, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was never released in the West, so MHGen is the first chance to visit Yukumo village.

If you have a save data of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, you can get a few bonus items, e.g. a Tigrex "costume"-armor for your Palico (Felyne-Comrade)

Enjoy:

Here You can find other Playlists.

[RePlay] The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past # 7 on [Retro-Saturday]

Time for some rubies and hearts again, today we're gathering some aside the main story of The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past, so no dungeon today.

BUT!!!

I had some things on my "shopping list" and we got it all:
  • 4 pieces of Heart
  • Shovel
  • Flute
  • Magic Cape
  • Bombos Medaillon
  • Cane of Byrna
  • Ether Medaillon

The Magic Cape is only optional, but in my opinion it's a must have, because you become invisable and invincable, too. I normally use the cape for the 4th and 7th Boss and against Ganon (for Ganon you won't even need a fairy if you have 4 green potions)

This is the only medaillon, that is optional, I normally never use it

The Cane of Byrna is almost like the Magic Cape, but the energy ring that protects you can also damage your enemies - and as you can guess, it's also optional

You will need this medaillon to enter the 6th dungeon

And if you want to see LINK moving - HERE's the VIDEO:

That's all about my shopping list today, see You again tomorrow!
